Mar 07, 09 | 7:42 amJust picked up The Very Best of Peter Jacques Band CD after procrastinating for quite some time due to my concerns about the audio quality and whether I cared for any of the '80s tracks.
Well I must say that I was pleasantly surprised that the sound quality is very good despite the acknowledgment on the credits that all the tracks were de-noised from the vinyl records. A tad bright, but overall very good.
While most of us are familiar with the 1979 tracks from their Prelude Records releases and perhaps even Counting on Love (1, 2, 3) and Drives Me Crazy, it's the other unknown-at least to me-tracks that I found myself really liking especially "All Right Let's Go." Didn't care for "Going Dancing Down the Street," but overall I enjoyed this CD and am glad I bought it.

I could relate to some of Bernies concerns about the 80s selections.Of those, my fav was "Going Dancing Down The Street" from their 1985 album of the same night. its kinda electro. From the same album is "All Right Lets Go" as Bernie mentions, which is a slower paced pop item, and "Drives Me Crazy",with its high pitched keyboards and syndrums."This Night" is ok.But onto the disco stuff I bought it for in the first place. The opener "Walking On Music" is just excellent, its got to be one of my favourite disco songs ever, fast, irrepresibly upbeat, shrill lyrics, strings, insistent bass, brilliant. (check out its film clip on youtube). Is It It? is also very upbeat although to a slower pace. It hit No 29 it Italy. They shouldn't have bothered with the remix I cant tell the difference. The title track from their 1979 album "Fire Night Dance" is sensational, another frantic, fast paced song that is genuinely exciting, nice and lengthy. Up next "One Two Three,Counting On Love" which is essential for disco lovers in my humble opinion! It is so commercial and yet unique, exciting, optimistic, LOVE it!! "Welcome Back" the title track from their 2nd album of the same name, has really grown on me. It is slower paced, co written by Mr Luther Vandross, with cool slapping bass and a downtempo vibe which becomes quite infectious. Last track from the "FND" lp is "Fly With The Wind", a moody, fast piece of electronica a-la Giorgio Moroder.Futuristic."Mighty Fine" is a 4am sleazy bar scene song, which is pretty good. There are no liner notes. Songs that would have made this great compilation excellent are: Devils Run, which I LOVE, Exotically, and many a fans favourite The Louder.Maybe instead of the filler Is It It remix. All the tracks are of decent length and I consider this essential disco material for those that like fast paced disco. They were an Italian group with quite an interesting story. Producer Jacques Fred Petrus was a dodgy man with Mafia conncections. However, him and Malavasi made some great music, with The Peter Jacques Band and also Macho ("I'm A Man"), Revanche ("Music Man") and Change ("Angel In My Pocket").So I would def recommend this.
