When the very young Prince felt like training in a studio, producer Pepe Willie gave him an opportunity so that the purple genie could play and record with him. After his Royal Badness became a suprstar, Pepe released this record to show everybody where the purple empire started.
94 East consisted of Pepe Willie, André Cymone, Alvin Moody and of course Prince.
The music is Disco - funk and very reminiscent of Prince's "For You" album.

I'm a true fan of Prince and all of the other Minneapolis recording artists associated with him...Morris Day & The Time, Vanity 6, Andre Cymone, Jesse Johnson, Wendy & Lisa etc. I have seen this CD "Minneapolis Genius: 94 East" several times in the past, but for some reason was kind of apprehensive about buying it. Well, today I broke down and decided to take a chance on this 'unknown' early (1977) example of the Minneapolis funk that I used to love so much in the '80s and I must tell you, I am not at all dissappointed in my purchase (actually, I'm dissappointed in myself for not buying it earlier). Every track on this disc sounds as funky as anything released by any one of the afore-mentioned artists and the style takes me right back to those oh so funky '80s and you can definetly hear the young Prince stretching out all over this disc! If you're a Prince fan, this one is most certainly essential for your collection.
