Oh, the shame! I found this in a "Best Buy" electronics store in Farmington, CT. Don't ask what I was doing in a consumer electronics store. Nonetheless, this no-brainer bargain (US$9.95) called out its siren song to me with its simple design, featuring a mirror ball on a white background. You might have well put a Harry Winston ring in front of me -- whoosh - into the cart.

Upon closer inspection, one will notice that this 2001 Sony compilation runs the gamut. Covers of older tunes as recently issued as '99 are juxtaposed smartly with vintage disco. All stuff no doubt we've heard before -- but some pearls that are really hard to find, even on vinyl.

Cheryl Lynn's "Star Love" is in its full 12" version here; Jackie Moore promises "This Time Baby;" TSOP is the earliest dated material. I could go on and on -- but you get the picture. This would make a tolerable party set on one's CD changer should one be having a few less-than-discophiles over for tea.

Finally, the absence of credits for production and engineering are mysterious. Has anyone else found that Disco compilations are notorious for being acoustically all-over-the-spectrum. Someone sat down with these varied tunes and re-mastered 'em so that they not only match each other dynamically, but the EQ is adjusted perfectly without being overwhelming (i.e., the whole record's mixed to a flat but pleasing level that will play well from boom box to Mackie's best speakers and a Sony broadcast-quality player.

The truly interesting post-disco era material used for filler were chosen tastefully and at this price you ought to be ashamed of yourself not to pick it up.
