Bustin' Out: New Wave To New Beat - The Post Punk Era 1979-1981: If the 1976-1977 Punk Rock revolution cleared the deck with its infamous Year Zero ferocity, it's what happened after the dust had settled which really saw music take an upward turn. With the independent label ethic established during Punk, artists and musicians with something to say didn't have to undergo ritual humiliation at the hands of the major labels after slogging for years and paying their dues.
