The Main Ingredient featuring Cuba Gooding (the father of actor Cuba Gooding Jr.) have been a staple in the R & B and Disco world since the 1960s and into the 1970s. They are forever remembered for their with their huge hitsEverybody Plays the Fool and Happiness Is Just Around the Bend.

The group released the album featured here, Ready for Love in 1980 and still features the lush string laden sounds and soulful vocals of their previous efforts of the '70s. The opening track Think Positive sets the CD off with an almost acapella intro that swells into an uptempo Jazz-Funk danceable number that includes some funky guitars, horn stabs and strings. Take a listen:



The title track Ready for Love is more of a soulful ballad that comes and goes into a pseudo Reggae beat. The rest of the album gives us more of the Main Ingredients vocals and full bodied sound. It's a great companion to another of their classic albums that has just been released by PTG Records - Vinyl Masterpiece, I Only Have Eyes for You.

It's wonderful to see a reissue label such as PTG consistently releasing quality out of print material from the '80s Funk, R & B and Dance domains to fervent music collectors. Put away that scratchy old vinyl copy and listen to the full spectrum of sound on this compact disc.
