MUSIC REVIEW & COLLECTOR NOTES

Danny Krivit - Edits by Mr. K, Volume 2: Music of the Earth will be released on September 14, 2010 and features classic and previously unreleased edits by the legendary resident DJ at New York's 718 Sessions and Body and Soul.

In 2003 Strut released the first volume of exclusive Danny Krivit edits on CD and it promptly became a favorite with dance music aficionados and DJs around the world. Volume two featured here follows the same formula bringing classic and underground tracks that have been reworked by the ever skillful Danny Krivit. He does nothing to destroy the original feel of the music as he stays faithful to it yet simply builds on what's all ready there to create a richer experience. Respect for the music shows and will be appreciated by the listener.

Krivit kicks it off with a Patrice Rushen jazz-funk track from 1978 that loops a super clean intro that builds nicely. The best track for me though is Black Blood's infectious and highly percussive Afro-tribal Chicano from 1975.

Rare Pleasure's Let Me Down Easy gets what at first seems like a subtle makeover, but listen well for a nice treat. Spanish Hustle by the Fatback Band is quite different with a more pronounced Philly / Jazz feel accentuating the sax so make sure to check it out because it almost takes on an MFSB groove.

On the rest of the disc Danny Krivit dusts off various tracks from the 1970s and one from 1986 for a total of ten tracks that rounds out what will certainly become a must have CD. If you enjoyed volume one, then Danny Krivit - Edits by Mr. K, Volume 2: Music of the Earth is a must!

One last thing that I feel is important to know, at least for diehard collectors who like to acquire promos, is that this review is for an advance promo CD that was sent to DiscoMusic.com. As such it contains overdubs by Danny Krivit throughout announcing the title of this CD and that it is for promotional purposes. The commercial copy will definitely not have any announcements so if given the choice of getting a promo or retail copy then it's best to get the retail commercial release.
