The earliest track here comes from Major Lance in 1969 and tops off with The Dells at 1980 so there is a wide range of music. One can hear the progression from a somewhat Motown-ish sounding soul to Disco with the strings and more pronounced beat. Some of these songs may have slipped past many listeners so if you're looking for a great primer or have been looking for these cuts for eons then this Backbeat release will please.
