Kon Kan is Canadian super DJ Barry Harris (a.k.a. the man behind Top Kat and one half of Thunderpuss) created quite a stir when he decided to sample Lynn Anderson's old country single I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN and add a house/NRG rhythm track. Canada's clubs jumped on this one and it quickly became a club sensation. The US soon followed and Atlantic signed the duo. Soon an album was on its way.
Subsequent singles like HARRY HOUDINI and MOVE TO MOVE (with Harris on vocals) made this debut set a must-have item for sure.
NRG jocks jumped on BITE THE BULLET (a cover version of the THEY NEVER SLEEP single from 1987) and GLUE and FIRE.
Fantastic samples, rapping and tons of scratching ; not to mention 1989-style dance music going all over the map. You also get two 12 inch mixes as CD bonus tracks.

Nov 05, 09 | 11:40 amI was surprised when they sampled Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" on this album.

Yes it was a great idea to sample "Immigrant song" on "Puss N Boots/These boots are made for walkin'".
I was always a fan of the group - Barry Harris told me he was indeed gonna cover the Foxy classic "Party Boys" but has since changed his mind.
His brand new track DRAMA QUEEN (TEXT ME) with Simone Denny is just out and is doing wonders on Billboard's dance charts.
