Vincent Montana Jr. of the Salsoul Orchestra in an in depth DiscoMusic.com interview
Unidisc (Canada) / 1992 (Originally 1981-1983) / SPLK-7037
CD in a jewel box.
Produced by Francois L'Herbier and Michel Daigle.
Executive producer : Walter Giardetti.
Arranged by Richie Rome.
Recorded by Gene Leone and Pete Tessier.
Tracks 1, 8, 14 : written by Denis & Denyse LePage.
Voggue appeared on the scene back in 1981. Chantal Condor (now known as Chantal Chamandy) and Angela Songui scored a huge hit with their Denis and Denyse LePage written DANCIN' THE NIGHT AWAY.
LOVE BUZZ,the soundalike follow-up was also a an international hit. Then the album came out. It was a pleasant debut though no other tracks matched their earlier success.
Album #2 followed in 1983 and the sound was a mixture of new wave/pop rock and disco. This time the girls relied on Canadian studio musican/synthesizer wizz Jeff Fisher to write much of the material.
I LOVE TO DANCE was a decent dance hit in Montreal (why it isn't on this CD is beyond me) and SUN STRUCK LOVERS received some airplay too.
Listening to these tracks again - I must say that I enjoy them more than I did back in the days. My surprise is the other Denis and Denyse LePage gem found here. ROLLER BOOGIE is a major Hi-NRG track! Think of THE BREAK/HOT WAX with the girls cooing "Ooh Roller Boogie... Roller Boogie" on top. Quite a nice surprise since I had never heard anything about the track before. Disco will never cease to amaze me!
