CD REVIEW & COLLECTOR NOTES

This excellent disco/funk compilation, Discovered - A Collection Of Daft Funk Samples is in fact a gathering of all the stuff DAFT PUNK has sampled throughout the years.

If you're a fan of the electro group - it's a lot of fun to hear where they got their inspiration in the first place.

I bought this about a year ago. I always wondered who it would appeal to? Surely there aren't too many Daft Punk fans also keen on the original grooves? Who knows..I don't really get into Daft Punk..I figure why go for 2nd best, with all due respect. Anyways "Hot Shot" by Karen Young is available in its 8 minute glory, a true disco must have. Breakwaters "Release The Beast" is rock disco that is pretty cool. George Dukes "I Love You More" is low intensity but pleasant disco a few years b4 "Shine On". Chaka Khans "Fate" with that awesome bass line is replaced with a crappy late 80s version of it which kinda defeats the purpose since it was in the original that D.P borrowed the bassline.Similarly,Oliver Cheathams "Get Down.." is not the original, or at least I have a version thats a lot more funky.Eddie Johns "More Spell On You" is great, 1978 disco on the same label as M Zager Band, dramatic funky soul disco, Cerrones "Supernature" is here in a long version, although I must confess never to have really liked that song (I'm aware some will think that is blasphemous!) Tata Vegas funky low key "Get It Up 4 Love" is great but the 12" is better, Sister Sledge appear with a lesser known early 80s track that you can tell would sound great LOUD on a dancefloor, and the other two are so so. Overall, not bad, not great worth owning for Karen Youngs long version of "Hot Shot" alone.
