MUSIC REVIEW & COLLECTOR NOTES

12 X 12 Original Disco 12" Mixes is a rather strange and unassuming compilation that claims to feature 12 inch extended versions of many Midsong Record releases from the 1970s. There are some odd song choices that were never Midsong releases such as Gloria Gaynor's re-recording of "I Will Survive", Cissy Houston's wonderful "Think It Over", Michael Zager's excellent Disco classic "Let's All Chant" and the lame KC and the Sunshine Band mix at the end.

As for the actual Midsong material, there are some great tracks like the classic and hard-to-find, Touch of Class "I'm In Heaven" which I don't believe has ever been released on CD before and of course the several Silver Convention tracks. Let's not forget the hidden gems by Dana & Gene as well as Todd Foster. Although "Super Sweet" by Wardell Piper is listed as the 12 inch version-it is not and is apparently the album cut.

Sound quality is not bad, but certainly not stellar and sounds as though it could be taken from vinyl sources. All in all, if you are lucky to find this at a reasonable price then do grab it as this disc is rare and can get rather pricey on the used market.
