Your Comments on Grace Jones

As a model, I guess Grace was a better singer than Elle MacPherson or Tyra Banks. Or Ernie Banks, for that matter. Loved the crewcut. "Warm Leatherette" was a bizarre little number, built around the same concept David Cronenberg used in the film "Crash."

Don't forget "La Vie en Rose"! She styled herself a disco chanteuse, her earlier albums themed mixes. She quickly, and frequenlty, evolved into the New Wave dominitrix, French arty music, then back to her Jamaican roots...whatever she wanted.
TRIVIA: Grace threw ashtrays at overly fresh fans in the bar of New Orleans' Parade disco after preforming there about '81.

I saw Grace Jones at Marine World in 1980. They had built a stage at the edge of the water and she entered on a barge! Her first number was Warm Leatherette and she knocked all the cymbals/drums off the stage...hitting a few unsuspecting security officers along the way who didn't know what to think. When she finished her last number she got back on the barge and sailed off into the evening, leaving the place in shambles and chaos. What a great concert. You really got your money's worth that evening. My favorite number she did that evening was LaVie en Rose.

I remember seeing Grace in concert in 1997 and I had a marvellous time.
She came rolling out on stage wearing nothing but panties singing her statement song "Demolition Man" which was great. The evening was splendid, she consistently shocked everyone, I remember she performed the Tom Petty cover "Breakdown" in which she threw herself at the audience, biting and even beating people over the head... what an evening I had.

I remember Bo Crane bringing her to his office in the gables for a release party of one of her lps, I never cared for her or her music, but she was a disco diva (and she really liked my girlfriend)

Saw Grace Jones at The Paradise Garage when "Slave To The Rhythm" was first released. There she was, onstage, straddling a big bass drum. I was high and the show was spectacular.

Grace Jones performance at the Paradise Garage was legendary!

First of all, look-a-likes were on the stage yet one of them was Grace Jones.

Pull Up To The Bumper and Feel Up were among the songs performed that night!

Gotta have Grace In Your Face!

There was a song that I used to hear in the Clubs, It was Grace Jones, But in it she would say "Put some Grace in Your Face". Does anyone know the name of the song? I am trying to get a copy of it. Thanks!!!

Can't name the tune just mentioned, perhaps it was from Slave to The Rhythm era? That song in particular was very self-referencing: ...And now ladies and gentlemen, heeeeeeers GRACE!"
By the way:
I'm proud to own a rare white label of Hurricane I got from VinylMania in New York about 98 or 99. It was a classic Twilo/Junior Vasquez hit for a while. The story I heard was that she cut it, hated it and never released it.
