Dance Music Hall of Fame 2004 Exclusive Photos From the Event in New York

The Dance Music Hall of Fame hosted its first annual awards show last night (Sept 20, 2004) in New York. It was a blast with numerous Disco stars in attendance and performing live such as Martha Wash, Evelyn "Champagne" King, Fonda Rae, Kurtis Blow, Ultra Nate and others. Other notables such as Nile Rodgers of Chic, Henry Stone, Vince Montana, Marty Angelo, Mel Cherin, Tom Silverman... were in attendance as well.

Henry Stone who founded TK Records and helped place KC and the Sunshine Band on the map was awarded a lifetime achievement award and received a huge round of applause.

Martha Wash (Two Tons O' Fun and the Weather Girls) had some very nice words on the passing of her friend Izora Armstead and a moment of silence was observed during the ceremonies.

All in all, it was a great and historic event with many in attendance. There was definitely a Disco vibe going on and everybody there was happy and proud to be a part of it all. It should only get better each year.

While there was videotaping going on, I am not sure when and if they are going to air anything from the event. Perhaps VH1 will show portions of it soon.

I was at the disco awards in 2004 and unfortunately could not make it in 2005. I was a bit disappointed as to its presentation and production. I thought it could have been produced much better. I would love to produce the event in 2006 and have attempted to get in touch with those involved, however no one has responded to my calls. It's a pity, thats what I do for a living...is produce events dj jeff yahney

Great site! Brings back lots of memories. Makes me want to archive and digitize my vinil collection most of which is in storage. I've lost some prized records through the years but most is still in mint condition. I actually came across the site by looking up Jim Burgess (sad to learn of his death) I remember him from my days at the now defunct Infinity on lower Broadway.

This was very interesting. I enjoyed the pictures. SHAME I wasn't there to see the still great looking Evelyn King, or hang out with SIXTY-MINUTE MAN Earl Young. My question, is what were the final results? Who got in? Was there one in 2006, or did this great idea fail? Is there one this year? Where is this Hall located? UPDATES PLEASE!!!

Hi all, I was very much involved in this Hall Of Fame and The following one. I will give you an accurate account of why it didn't succeed and perhaps how it could in the future with the right individuals on board
To Be Continued....

Barry Lederer of Graebar Sound

DiscoMusic.com's original in-depth interview from 2004 with the late Barry Lederer. Barry began by Djing at several New York area clubs and later taking over Tom Moulton's "Disco Mix" Billboard column and being one of the principals of Graebar Sound. The team at Graebar designed and installed the sound systems for the Saint, 12 West, Trocadero Transfer, Probe and several other world class night clubs in the 1970s. Read it now...
