When I first moved to San Francisco and went to Trocadero Bobby V. played this wonderful song that, I found out later, was Gone, Gone, Gone. It still remains one of my favorites as does the flip side, Beguine.

Through Columbia Records in early 1979, Johnny Mathis also released 12" singles with disco versions of "Night and Day" and "That Old Black Magic" on them. These tracks also appeared on his 1979 LP "Mathis Magic" (tracks 2 and 7 respectively). His version of Cole Porter's "Night and Day" is much better than the 1977 disco version by Frank Sinatra and I enjoyed it more than John Davis and the Monster Orchestra's rendition too. The atmospheric beginning of "Night and Day" is very interesting with first violins and then robotic bass patterns and sound effects followed by warm orchestral sounds, all accompanied by his amazing vocals, and then an unusual break section with videogame-like sound effects. The consistent disco beat works just like clockwork, as it should on a time-oriented song like this.

the MERRCURY albums are impossible to find. I take that back I did see one but all others are just not available...Also many of his COLUMBIA is not there either.
I guess Columbia will get in the groove as time goe3s on but the MERCURY part of Johnny's life is yet to be heard by a vast audience.....
